Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Achieving a recycling milestone: Vista’s vision for a better planet

In the UK, we throw away 31 million tonnes of waste every year. This generates a pressing need to reverse the negative impact our waste production is having on the environment which in turn is driving the need to recycle as much waste as possible.

At Vista, our ongoing commitment to the greening government strategy combined with our desire to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly services has created a culture within our business to ensure that all WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) are repaired, reused, or repurposed. This drives our own circular economy and prevents waste products ending their usable lives as landfill.

Throughout 2020 our colleagues worked together to achieve Vista’s recycling milestone of 100% repair, reuse, repurpose and recycle on all electronic products that were either defective or were surplus to requirements.

Vista has an excellent track record of repairing defective IT and PoS hardware within our purpose-built repair facility based in South Wales, the team repair electronic devices down to surface mount component level in a lab-like environment. 97% of all defective devices processed by Vista’s repair team were successfully repaired. It’s quite incredible when you consider that this includes technology that may have sustained substantial damage.

The remaining 3% of the products are considered unrepairable or have reached the end of their useable life. However, the team doesn’t just dispose of these items. We try our best to repurpose, reuse, and recycle every component and achieve a 100% circular economy for all electrical and IT products that we support for our customers.

James Pepper, CEO, commented

It is the responsibility of all businesses to play their part in undoing the damage that has been caused to our environment. We are all proud of the efforts of our colleagues and the excellent quality of repair and innovation shown to repurpose and recycle products that cannot be repaired. This result combined with other environmental and social initiatives focused on net-zero emissions and sustainable sourcing, demonstrates that we have a commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and a genuine desire to leave the world in a better place than we find it today.
